The Inventar
Wondering what shaped me? Looking for inspiration? If you're tired of just flowing in the stream of your YouTube algorithm, maybe this helps to put a bit of intention to it. If you're one of the special last ones, which are still reading printed papers, also referred to as books back in the days when people still had time, I'm sharing a few recommendations of those as well. Caution! This is promoting consumerism. Thinking for yourself is always worth more than getting more input, in such an information flooded world as ours. You don't need to buy a book or rent a movie or visit a historical place. Those things only bring you to a certain point, never beyond and definitely not closer to enlightenment. But they're good content. So enjoy and learn. Be kind to your own intellect and feed it some good stuff. You'll thank yourself later.
Maybe it was when I took my shoes off and didn't wear them for a little over six months. Maybe it was the first January morning in which I put myself into a frozen pond for the first time. Or the moment I decided to rather sleep on the ground instead of my own bed. This doesn't sound too comfortable. This couldn't be too nice. Well, actually, you know what? By taking away all your comforts, suddenly everything turns nicer. The void between pleasant and unpleasant things shrinks. The level of comfort you need to feel good decreases and brings your needs on a lower level. Does any of this make sense to you? Often this all doesn't for me. But I'm still on it and by a little bit of reflection, myself and therefore you will figure out what for that all is. Why it is that I'm showering only cold for the last 1.5 years, why I'm sleeping on the carpet next to my bed, why I'm using a brick phone with real buttons instead of this beautifully designed iPhone of mine... the barefoot part you probably get. It's the most awesome thing ever to feel the grass beneath your toes, to feel the earth breathing and connecting with you by every step you take through it. But why would I start doing it in the middle of winter while there is snow and frost? Why live in worse conditions and with less things when there is the option not to? Is a fuller Inventar more useful or does is hinder you on your way. When trying to come over a river, is it advisable to hold onto as many things as possible or to get rid of all the ballast to travel faster, further and easier?
I don't know! Maybe you don't, neither. If you haven't found your way and you're still looking and striving to get there, consider this approach. Less for more. Simple and happy.
